… So that Your Interactions with People lead to Understanding, Resolution, Teamwork and Growth!
Did you know that life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react? If we want to improve or master our communication skills, we have to understand better this 90%…
What is the difference between a reaction, an overreaction, and a response?
- a reaction is usually quick, charged with emotions and without much thinking! Like a reflex
- a response is usually slower, more neutral and thought of, more similar to chronic pain
- an overreaction is a stronger and more exaggerated reaction, out of proportion compared to the situation with a stronger emotional component and can create tension and be unproductive
So if we want a more pleasant experience obviously over-reaction is not the route, and we should respond more than react!
So why is it so important to develop and master our Responding skills?
When we respond, we set up the stage for a more positive experience as we are more open to cooperation and to resolution, we communicate more effectively, we understand the other person and the situation much better, and we focus on finding harmonious outcomes.
